Day 24 - Input Prank

Tonight's application runs silently in the background, and screws with the keyboard input. Typically I do a screen shot, but in this case, there is nothing to screen shot. Instead I'll write the pledge of allegiance below, with the args 20 10 2 passed to the application:

ŸI!pledge alegiance to the flg,"of te unjed states of amekca.# ¢¢And# o he rrepubic, ffor wwhich it stnds one ation, UgE GOD, with libey, aandjustie for aall

It has 3 different styles of achieving this prank:
Replace - replaces the pressed character with a psuedo-random replacement.
Consume - consumes the pressed key (does not get pressed).
Repeat - repeats the pressed key.

This application should be run from the console, and running with no args provides a brief help box. It's named "ankey.exe" so it won't look too obvious in task manager. You can rename it anything you'd like (but the Utils DLL must remain the same). The three args are the settings above. Run it with 500 500 500 to really trick people into thinking that their keyboard is broke. Run it with 20 10 2 to piss people off completely - but they'll know something is up!

Mashup sounds like a good idea. But you should throw some extra's in as well. Maybe something like launchy or desktoplistview.

I'll donate when you make an app like www.fraps.com (I'm not rich) - I don't want video. Just a number of screenshots into a folder, per second. I'll try modding your old programs, but I'm new to this stuff...

Many years ago there was a virus that did the same thing. It used a keyboard map to pick keys near the one you pressed and only activated above a certain WPM.

1. go to the Command Prompt: Start > Programs > Accessories
2. look at the directory given (maybe c:/)
3. download and unzip this program into that directory
4. in the Command Prompt, type in ankey.exe 55 54 53
or whatever values you want

to cancel the process, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to the Task Manager, find ankey.exe in the Processes tab and click End Process
instructions pop up if one simply types in ankey.exe into the Command Prompt

Try it with:
ankey 500 1 500

This leaves them completely unable to type! Makes keyboard seem completely gone or just good security while you're gone!
